		Re: ULT, Blavatsky.net, Theosophical History

Dear Frank:

Since you mention my name I try to give an answer, which as I see
it, ought to set the record straight and clear.

1. Blavatsky.Net is not connected with the ULT.

2. Mr. Reed Carson owns and conducts it according to the
	policies he determines.

3. ULT is an association of volunteers established in 1909,
which exists for only one purpose:

To promulgate the ORIGINAL TEACHINGS of Theosophy as recorded
in the writings of H.P.Blavatsky and Wm. Q. Judge.

In order to do this it

	1. reprints either photographically or verbatim the text of the
original books and articles written by these two personages.

	2. It provides a forum where these can be discussed.

It has only one single document that establishes its entire
	basis for work:
The DECLARATION of the UNITED LODGE OF THEOSOPHISTS.

I reproduce this below so that the basis for the ULT is made
clear.

4. The ULT is not concerned with the history of the past and the
many views that have been expressed concerning the adventures of
the recent Theosophical Movement such as can be traced by
document and action for the past 125 years. Those are "side
issues" and it has no concern with them.

5. If anyone desires to study the history of the recent
Theosophical Movement they will find it in the following:

	1. The magazines THEOSOPHY (Los Angeles, 1912 to present) and
THE THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT (Bombay, 1929 to the present) set out
the progress of the ULT in terms of its work and ought to be
referred to for that purpose.

	2. The book THE THEOSOPHICAL MOVEMENT -- 1875 -1950 ($ 6.00)
presents a documentary history of the recent history for those
who are interested.

	3. Mr. M. Gomes has published separately an exhaustive list of
these documents,
(over 2000) so that anyone can refer to them if they so desire.
THE THEOSOPHY OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY -- An
Annotated Bibliography -- by M. Gomes.

	4. A definitive documentary biography of Mme. Blavatsky:
H.P.B. -- HER EXTRAORDINARY INFLUENCE by Sylvia Cranston has
	been issued .

These are all primary sources and can be recommended instead of
opinions.

---------------

I thank you for the references that you have given me which back
up statements that you have made earlier without those
references. Students of the history of the Theosophical Movement
can now go to those and refer to them for themselves. And from
their independent work they can frame their own conclusions, just
as you seem to have framed and derived your own.

I see no good reason to endeavour to characterize one
Theosophical organization or individual and make comparisons with
others. The course of Karma and of individual actions is plain
and is different from the claims that have been made. There is
no
case of "slander" if one refers to the original documents that
make clear the actions taken and the words used.

I write this as one who has been a participant in the work of the
ULT in many of its centers for about 60 years. Of course what I
have done (or say) personally has no weight. I therefore set
down
these statements as a matter of my personal observation.

Best wishes,

Dallas

UNITED LODGE OF THEOSOPHISTS

	DECLARATION:

The policy of this Lodge is independent devotion to the cause of
Theosophy, without professing attachment to any Theosophical
organization. It is loyal to the great Founders of the
Theosophical Movement, but does not concern itself with
dissensions or differences of individual opinion.

The work it has on hand and the end it keeps in view are too
absorbing and too lofty to leave it the time or inclination to
take part in side issues. That work and that end is the
dissemination of the Fundamental Principles of the Philosophy of
Theosophy, and the exemplification in practice of those
principles, through a truer realization of the SELF; a profounder
conviction of Universal Brotherhood.

It holds that the unassailable basis for union among
Theosophists, wherever and however situated, is "similarity of
aim, purpose and teaching," and therefore has neither
Constitution, By-Laws nor Officers, the sole bond between its
Associates being that basis. And it aims to disseminate this idea
among Theosophists in the furtherance of Unity.

It regards as Theosophists all who are engaged in the true
service of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex,
condition or organization, and

It welcomes to its Association all those who are in accord with
its declared purposes and who desire to fit themselves, by study
and otherwise, to be the better able to help and teach others.

"The true Theosophist belongs to no cult or sect, yet belongs to
each and all."

The following is the form signed by Associates of the United
Lodge of Theosophists:

Being in sympathy with the purposes of this Lodge, as set forth
in its "Declaration," I hereby record my desire to be enrolled as
an Associate, it being understood that such association calls for
no obligation on my part, other than that which 1, myself,
determine.

on Mrs. Katherine Tingley and her relationship to William Q.
Judge

The problems with the Anti-Blavatsky-Net of Reed Carson is that
they allow that direct messengers of the Masters can be
persecuted with
foolish lies and the defense is not allowed on equal conditions.
The TRUE
reason is that the defense and the truth of Katherine Tingley
(she was appointed
by Judge and recognized upon her occult status by all the close
pupils of
Judge, including later ULT founder Crosbie) is obviously against
the
limited and sectarian and therefor un-theosophical policy of the
ULT. It is
not necessary that ULT accepts Katherine Tingley is they need a
bugaboo to justify Crosbie's actions even a Century later. But as
a
discussion list which bears the good name of HPB they must allow
an open
discussion. As Reed rejected my pertinent and reserved defense
of KT I
decided to unsubscribe from all lists of this net. Not that I
have personell
feelings, but as this slanderous action is in my humble opinion a
violation
against the pukka Theosophy as HPB, the Masters, Judge, Tingley
or
de Purucker brought us.
