Oct 17 Dear Randy: Atom as a perpetual motion machine -- a fundamental concept in basic physics - Atoms have an existence that is oblivious of the Laws of Thermodynamics which are man-made axioms and which relate to complex entities. But even those are found to be contradicted daily. There are "anomalies" that have to be looked for and being found form the basis for Scientific advance and investigation. See any basic book on astro-physics or physics. A good library has to be consulted. This is where physics and metaphysics meet. this is where the physics of the extremely small meet the physics of the large and universal -- how are they united? What is the true Universal Field theory ? Note that it is a theory and this is HONEST -- A "THEORY" is a tentative explanation of observed events, and all facts continue to be under surveillance so that any THEORY is modified by subsequent observations and experience. When that is finally made sure of then it is expressed as a "Law." Conceptualization and thinking are faculties that neither a dandelion or a lion have yet developed. The dandelion and all plants are very sensitive. The lion and the ant show instinct and quasi-independence. Mankind as creative and can educate himself. He shares in all the faculties so far developed in the universe. Therefore universlization and conceptualization, as also fancy, ignorance, and sloth are part of his make-up. What is "self-will?" Sensitivity is universal but is also graded depending on the level of experience that any form exhibits. However awareness, consciousness is an innate faculty in the form that arises from within or from behind the form that we contact and see. Study the 7-fold nature of man and the universe and observe their inter-relation. HPB who pioneered Theosophy drew attention to this from the very first. It was the dawn of a new kind of psychology. Man was a self-responsible being. The whole body of the legal system of any land depends on the RESPONSIBILITY of each individual to be charitable, unselfish, generous, and self-guarding. Theosophy unifies the various disciplines of mankind's study. It shows how they inter-mesh. Behind the physical Universe we all know and sense with our 5 senses is the Universe of causes, of forces such as instinct, intelligence and intuition. What are they ? I do not mean the description of how they act or what they do. I mean where do they come from? When you decide to act, what in you makes the decision? How is it transmitted into action?. What energizes the brain? How do you and I and everyone else generate and use them? What are their powers? The body is a tool to receive and to generate impulses and manifest many degrees of sensitivity, but that faculty lie entirely behind and within the physical aggregation. What causes the molecular aggregation ? What causes the configuration of the RNA/DNA ? What causes growth and limits it? What causes fatigue? What causes old age and death? What is the purpose of living? What are our faculties and how do we direct them? What is the difference between "instinct," "intelligence," "reason," "intellection," "intuition ?" These are the questions that all Science would dearly like to have defined and answered. Theosophy does. The Second Law of Thermodynamics would argue that if you put an atom in a closed system, its order would eventually decay to maximum disorder...if I am interpreting the law correctly in this case.
