But the thrust of the organization would be vegetarian, non-violent, and

model of society.
If this isn't eletism - what IS?
It may be comparatively easy to round up some vegetarians (somehow a violent
act in itself), but expecting them to be non-violent as well is just asking
too much!
Or are they to be "carefully selected and screened"?
And what about all our meat eating brothers? What of them?
And what you call current mass society?
And are your members to be non-smoking T-totalers as well?
Drinking alcohol may be/is more harmful to nature than meat eating?

Vegetarianism, ahimsa, tee-totalism, non-smoking etc while would be helpful
and many of us are in simpathy with them, it would be very good not to
forget the history of modern theosophical movement. I suppose the thrust
for these things came about after Besant came in to the TS and of course
CWL had his part in furthering them in TS(Adyar), there is a very telling
passage in one of the letters to APS.
The Founders chose HPB, HSO and others were were smokers and meat eaters.
Why? There were 10s of thousands in India who were vegetarians, tee
totalers, non smokers etc but were not found to meet the kind of leaders
the the Founders were looking for. They clearly stated that it is because
of the wrong "beliefs" that these vegetarians etc have and which in turn
attract powerful entities in the unseen world it needed large amounts of
force to nullify them as compared to that required for nullifying purely
physical issues such as meat eating. BTW, both Sinnett and Hume were meat
eaters and drinkers and smokers.
Could it be that we have not heard from the Founders since 1900 because all
of us theosophists have fallen into the same trap of holding on to strong
wrong beliefs? Something to think about.
