Scholars have pretty much unanimously agreed that those additions are late
forgeries. The way Josephus casually mentions him as "the messiah" is pretty
suspect. Joesphus never discusses his teachings, etc., just as you say,
mentioned him. For a historian like Josephus, that is really out of
character. This is the historian who gives us all kinds of information on
the Essenes, and then just throws in a word about the messiah. Not likely.
That's why it's discounted.
