I can appreciate this. The study of the Sutras of Patanjali is a
continuous process and having the insights of other sages is a most
valuable help for the student to gain an understanding of them. It is
also the most practical science I have ever studied to date.

I agree with you, that the study of the Sutras of Patanjali is practical.
It is by my opinion, a necessary study for a serious student.

Another couple of books I am finding quite useful on this topics are:
Yoga as a Philosphy and Religion by Surendranath Dasgupta
Yoga Immortality and Freedom by Mircea Eliade
They are not direct translations of the Sutras but rather discuss in
depth the concepts from the Yoga Sutras and the Samkhya Philosophy. I
have found these books very helpful. They are more of an academic work.

Thank you John for informing me about these books. My interest for good
books is continuous. But my ability to read is not. Now, I need at times
to rest my eyes from reading.

Exactly right. Let us try to look at some Sutras this way, and to begin
with selecting text from three books. Those three I mentioned in another
letter. Beginning with the Sutra, dealing with the Sacred Word.
1. - OM: Here follows Instruction in Union
1. - AUM. ( OM ) The following instruction concerns the Science of Union.
27. - His designator is Om
28. - Its constant repetition and meditation on its meaning.
29. - From it ( result ) the disappearance of obstacles and turning inward
of consciousness
------------------------------
Here we have three minds dealing with the Sacred Word. Two Western minds
and one Oriental. It is useful to compare their presentations of the Sutras,
and interpretations.
Let us summarize:
The Sacred Word is of Cosmic origin.
The Sacred Word is used and applied by Humans, and for Humans in our Solar
System.
The Sacred Word is to be used by every Soul and every man.
The Sacred Word is the Sound of unification between the Unmanifested and
the Manifested.
By sounding the Sacred Word, a man evokes the attention of his inner Self
and the Soul.
-----------------
John, have you studied how the Word is pronounced in the Higher Worlds?
Are you familiar with the writings of Albert Pike. ?
Albert mentions that the Word has at a time, been used as ON.
But does not say where and when.
I have no idea how he comes to this conclusion, and have found it strange.
Have you seen comments on this before.?
