The christian story has Christ saying: "Come unto me all ye who travail and
are heavy laden, and I will refresh you." Not to bear the load (in line
with karma), but to refresh.
The Buddha stays with humanity, but not to carry the load.
In a book by Lyell Watson, a whale is left dry on a beach and the islanders
can do nothing to get it back in the water. A girl stays with the whale,
pours water over it, keeps it cool, and stays with it, until it dies a few
days later. But the girl can't really carry the load.
Kym said, when referring to her dog: "she responds to my sadness with her
own sadness," her dog is with her and sad in her way too, but it can't carry
the load of her sadness, but it can help to aleviate her sadness by just
being there.
