Usefulness of the list

I want to thank Mr. Ed Abdill for his letter and a timely and needed advice.
I have to say that only rarely do I see really useful comments and thoughts
on this list (Theos-talk). And I wonder if it is possible to make it more
useful in the higher sense.

I think most of the people on this list (if not all) are really sincere
seekers of truth and higher wisdom. But there seems to be no progress. No
real spiritual thoughts are exchanged and no evidence is of higher
striving. Then what is lacking? How do we make some real contributions to
the progress of humanity?

Not that I have all the answers, but I want to share with you some thoughts.

First of all I think that we must all question our motive and purpose of
all that we send out on the list. Is it something that will contribute to
the good of humanity? Is it something that will light the higher fire in
the heart of the reader? Is it free of egoism? Is it an expression of our
deepest and highest thoughts? Is it something that we would like others to
say to us?

Or is it just an expression of our personal pride and self-righteousness?

If this list is to be a channel of higher spiritual striving and
enlightenment, then we all must discipline ourselves, and think really hard
about how we can contribute to that beautiful achievement. Do we want to
create something beautiful? If so, then we must refine our minds and
feelings. This is a delicate work, and the rules of the ordinary life do
not apply, we must create new rules.

Criticism is a highly destructive tool in the hands of the majority. It is
easy to criticise, to tear down what a brother or sister has built, maybe
with high hopes and loving care. To misinterpret, deliberately or not,
twist the meaning, and take sentences out of context. In essence it is a
very selfish act. The criticiser tries to find flaws in the logic or some
weak spot, and usually there are some. This he uses to attack and break
down the achievement of the other. And the motive is not to do good to his
brother or help him, but to make sure he does not rise higher than himself
and try to drag him down to his own level.

Instead one should try to realise the essence of the work, is it
constructive or destructive? If it is destructive it is usually best to do
nothing, but sometimes it is necessary to take some preventive measures.
If it is constructive and useful, then one should make use of it and maybe
assist if needed.

The work should be done in a spirit of brotherhood. That means that we
must be able to trust one another. If we trust each other we can freely
express our inmost and dearest thoughts knowing that our brothers and
sisters will treat them with loving understanding and make some effort to
understand them and share them with us, and take them for what they are.

In all we do we must aim at lighting the spiritual fire, the thoughts must
be imbued with the higher fire. That fire we all can feel when we sense
some inspired work, like a great work of immortal art. We have all had our
high moments, when all our inner being has been flooded with the higher
light, when we have realised some high spiritual truth and felt the bliss
of the spiritual contact. In a sense like a contact with The Most High and
The Most Beautiful.
Let that fire be our shield.

The wisdom lies in that high fire, the fire of the heart.

Do we want to strive to high achievements? Do we want to devote our
strength and work, our thoughts, feelings and whole life to The Highest?

If so, we must know what is good and proper on our way and act accordingly.

Sigtryggur.
