Isn't a generation about 33 years ?
If you mean the total number of MONADS which will work together to pass
through the man-mind-stage in any one Manvantara, then this "Host" or
"Wave" is said to have a definite number and the process of self-education
is always probationary under Karma.
The test as I see it is to learn how to behave as an eternal and immortal
Being in a Universe/World which is also consisting of universal and
immortal beings at various levels of progress.
In other words Brotherhood is the norm and not the exception if one adopts
such a concept. Even a molecule of air, a drop of water, a crystal, a
grain of sand, or a microbe are Beings which express the general trend
towards evolving self-consciousness.
The sense of endless time in which to achieve this may annoy us, because we
have been told since childhood that we have only one life to achieve
whatever goals some invisible and not-well-explained "God" has in mind for
us.
But Theosophy at a stroke does away with such limitations which are
illogical and substitutes a Universe in which there is purpose and also
responsibility. Law is put forward as something that is the same for all:
hence merciful and just. It regulates disparities and similarities. It
attaches to us as mind-beings and "choosers," the responsibility of
handling the exact effect of our choices, bad or good. There is no
"escape." No prayer or praise can cause Karma to change. As we sow, so we
reap.
It is difficult to get that into our minds as for a long time most
religious organizations have tried to impress us with the power of their
priests and rituals (for which one pays !) is such that evil and sin can be
expiated for a fraction of the horror and sorrow which we may have
inflicted on others. If we flinch from the idea that we too will be
saddled with the problems arising from our abuse of power over others, then
why should we put them into such a position by closing our heart away from
compassion and love ?
And speaking of compassion and love should these not graduate into wisdom
too? How do we use and apply these two wonderful qualities with
discrimination and true perception of the needs of others ? Goodness is
not always wisdom in its application.
If we consider the vast cooperative or separate elements in Nature that go
to make up our bodies, with the many functions of various cells and organs,
do we not find that those interactions are to be regulated with care ? If
those are bent or obstructed, the resulting chaos turns into disease and
pain.
If we look around us at our World we see the most complex and different
machinery and gadgets which are used by people with a degree of
responsibility that determines their usefulness to society and gives them a
livelihood. How is all that arranged ? Economics, ecology ?
Good words for an indescribable situation which seems to grow of itself and
like an ocean it has waves and troughs that succeed each other and people
float or sink or rise on these cycles of want or of prosperity. How does
anyone rise above these variations so as to be able to grasp their
significance and begin to progenies their arrival ? It takes detachment,
learning and as a final necessity: compassion.
So as individuals we are "fractals" in as much as we mold our own future by
fee-choice. As a group we are a portion of that "Adam Kadmon" the "Great
Man." But we need to study, I think the qualities and pupose that the old
books ascribe to that concept. HPB in ISIS has gone deeply into this and
it is worth while using a good Index to trace down the various statements
that she makes and bring them together.
I do hope this will beof some help, Dallas
