Dear Annette:

I think you are right in surmising that there is a universal language
around so that those of similar minds, regardless of their education, can
"talk" with one-another. In any case where there is exchange there is
always growth.

Links between Druids and Xmas -- This would entail a study, I think of the
way in which the wisdom of the Druids and the Groves was suppressed under
the iron fist of the Roman empire which had swept through Gaul, Britain,
parts of Scandinavia, and most of what we call Germany and Poland now, and
so on down to the Black Sea and Constantinople. When Constantine Sit
became a Christian at the urging of Bishop Eusebeus, an order was sent to
all centers of administration of the Roman Empire making Christianity to
State Religion and ordering the suppression and destruction of the ancient
religions which had been in many cases tolerated, or at least not been
seriously persecuted till then. Old Temples were to be destroyed and
Christian churches to be erected on their sites [ taking advantage of the
old "lay-lines ! ] .

As far as I can trace, the Druids had their wisdom from the far more
ancient Atlanteans. If you have some of the standard Theosophical books,
like ISIS, the S D , the THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY, I can send you some page
references to look up. But even so, there does not seem to be much. It is
probable that our best access to that may be trough the Scandinavian myths,
legends, Eddas, the Skalds and the Kalevala of the Finns. But it would
take a real expert who was also a student of Theosophy to make sense out of
those mysterious runes and sayings.

I have always felt that if we live in Nature, we are also one with her. So
are we not immortals too ? Everything at its basis is an immortal "life."
It can be moved around, it can learn by experience, but it cannot be
killed.

If we seek deep within our minds and hearts, we will soon find that the
brain is only a shell for the real consciousness -- which has many powers.
Then who is it who KNOWS that variety ? IT does not change, but acts like
a visitor at a play -- watching all that goes on. Perhaps the actors
realize ITS presence, and from time to time may try to contact or refer to
IT. [ Intuition ?] Sometimes this Perceiver sees errors and tries to
contact the Actor, sends a warning of danger if a certain direction or
action is adopted [ Voice of Conscience ] . But this aspect of ourselves,
the Changeless is of necessity the "thread-soul" upon which are strung like
beads numberless lives, each the basis of what we call a "personality."

Each one of us has developed their own approach to an understanding of
themselves, if we are introspective enough to employ the idea that there is
an aspect of our "minds" which can serve as an "observer" without being
involved in the many happenings, sensations and ideas around IT.

I think this is in line with the Object of the Theosophical Movement which
suggests that we investigate the hidden side of Nature and the powers that
are latent in humanity -- and we are the closest object we can examine, are
we not ? The next question is how do we record what we find out ! How do
we note changes ? How do we devise ways of considering them ? In her book
THE KEY TO THEOSOPHY, Mme. Blavatsky gives us some practical guide-lines
for this kind of work. Are you familiar with this ?

There are some of us who are very sensitive and apparently can use certain
of the secret powers of nature. Now how can this be developed usefully,
and with the kind of care and guidance that it might be suggested ought to
be employed by one so endowed ? This needs great care, and I am sure that
you are aware of that. The reason why you see a "barrage of warnings" is
that most people have no idea of what a "Pandora's Box" the invisible side
of Nature is. HPB did, in her writings, describe the greatest number of
such
cases and areas and made suggestions as to what could be done.

As far as I know "magical" results are obtained by the use of the "sill" of
the operator. Motive therefore enters immediately into the picture. Are
people or objects to be manipulated ? Three are many questions to be
looked into. So if you sense the kind of reaction you get, it is first,
friendly, and understanding. The cautions are directed at being of
assistance to you, in case you do not have the information some of us have
put together. No knowing your condition some of it is probably superfluous,
but still, it is meant to be of assistance. Ultimately, you are the only
one to make use of what you see, read, think, and do. The brotherhood
aspect of Theosophy would make any kind of personal imposition or coercion
illicit according to the great laws of nature.

As you say we all have our own kind of genius, talent (or their lack) and
we are the only ones who direct the process of learning and using. You
speak of making a barrier around you which no magical thrust can penetrate,
or some such device. But consider that if your will is charged against any
intrusion no amount of ceremonial magic, or words and formulas will, from
the physical plane, serve as a true barrier.

Have you ever read Bulwer-Lytton's ZANONI, or his A STRANGE STORY. Both
books are about 100 years old, but they illustrate in some degree the
difficulties and plight of those who have this sensitivity and are faced
with problems that relate to its presence in and around them. For
information those books are well worth reading. Rider Haggard and Talbot
Mundy, using similar themes wrote a number of fine and interesting books
that give hints concerning such situations also. But in many cases the
fiction tends to lad the student away from the needed facts and
observations to be learned from.

I do not myself think that wisdom is either "eastern," or "western." It is
universal, and it so happens that in the remote Himalayas were the
territory is a natural barrier and defense [ the Chinese only occupy a few
key cities and roads ] it has been possible to secrete and hide much of the
wisdom of this world, bot physically and metaphysically. As around a
University center, it is natural that there would be the accretions of
students, and professors. But the teaching is probably of a different
dimension from that which we have learned in the west: Primarily it is
moral, ethical and considers the motive as a primary basis for living and
learning and self-development.

Formulas, diagrams, etc... are find, but what underlies them ? Who can be
an "authority ?" Who is so disinterested as to take time to assist the
inquirer to know himself, without exacting some kind of toll ?

As to what to do with transgressors to keep them isolated and prevent their
committing further atrocities -- the debate will ever continue. It is my
opinion as a student of Theosophy that I would not like to endorse "capital
punishment" at any time, since Theosophically speaking one releases at an
execution the most horrible kind of "spook" from the person who is thus
killed -- it believes itself wronged, and seeks on the astral and psychic
plane to revenge itself. Some details are quite horrible. [ More on this
awful subject is available as information is sundry articles, if you desire
to see it. ]

Yes, each of us has their own kind of freedom, and this need not be invaded
until such time as some contact or help is desired. In the search for
knowledge the widest areas have to be searched, but whatever returns, is
again to be screened before acceptance or usage. In that the seeker is
always the actor and the decision maker. This is a very positive condition
that ought to be retained at all times, since, in cases of passivity,
"mediumship," trance, etc... the invasion of one's "personality" by another
entity (even an executed criminal) is a horror that would be potential, and
if at such a time one is "passive" one cannot close the mental gates
against an invasion and its dire consequences. It is also for this reason
that some of the "barrage" you received was sent -- as an assist. More
precise details are available if you desire. They will in my case consist
in references to some articles written by HPB and others who had to deal
practically with such matters. That's all. I say this clearly so that
there may be no area of "mystery" to further confuse.

These are some of the ideas that come through as I read what you say.

I wish you the very best for the coming change of cycles and a new "year."
