In a message dated 97-11-16 17:08:19 EST, you write: << Last evening the ULT held its Special Meeting in commemoration of the starting of the Theosophical Movement in NY on 17th Nov. 1875. There was all afternoon and evening a terrific thunderstorm, and since most of our attendance walks to the meeting, we were only seven present. The ULT here has two meetings a week, Sundays Public Lectures, and on Fridays Study Classes. At the Study Class we are halfway through Judge's "Ocean of Theosophy." The Indian Institute of World Culture, close to the ULT, and founded by students of the ULT, has a free public library open from 8 am to 7:30 pm six days a week. There there is a complete collection of all Theosophical Books and Magazines, the former can also be borrowed while the latter are in the reference section. >> Sri Sr B. P. Wadia was one of the shining lights of the theosophical movement in India. A former associate of Annie Besant, he eventually left the T.S. and joined the U.L.T. I have his excellent 2-volume set, Studies in the Secret Doctrine. A member-student of the Washington U.L.T., now deceased, Jacob Regardie used to delight in telling me that he used to play tennis with Sri Wadia whenever he visited the District of Columbia These visits must have been some ago. Mr. Wadia's wife was/is the editor of The Aryan Path, published in Bangalore or Bombay. Her name is Sophia. I believe she may have founded the Indian Institute of World Culture. Could you give me any additional information on this? When I was in Bangalore in 1981, I visited the surprisingly large and impressive T.S. compound in that city but failed to visit the U.L.T. building there. It was my intention to do so but my time was limited with my daily visits to Brindhavan in Whitefield and so forth. Perhaps next time. Namaste Lmhem111 (M. Heminway)
