The Healing Pentagram

In the Colonel's fifth series of Old Diary Leaves appears the chapter The
Healing Pentagon (sic). He relates that on a visit to Calcutta his hostess
was experiencing excruciating pain from a wasp or scorpion sting.

I'll let the Colonel continue: " I thereupon tested and proved, for the
hundreth time, the efficacy of that , as yet unexplained, remedy of writing
on the patient's flesh above the wound and at the extreme point to which
the the pain has travelled along the nerve, the pentacle or five pointed
star."

He then cites the numberles cures by this process published in back issues
of The Theosophist.
BTW H.P.B. tells us that "pentacle" has nothing to do with pent, being
five, but is a mispronuncation of pantacle: any magical figure.

This pentagram was successful against fever, scorpions and other poisonous
animals and pain no matter how excruciating.
Why is this?
I will continue with this later.
