As I see it, "faith" is of two kinds.
1. There is faith based on knowledge of fact.
2. There is faith which is based on hope, or on the authority of someone's
verbal picture which tallies with our hopes and aspirations.
But it is a faith that remains to be proved and demonstrated. We are now
in the phase of our educational scheme which demands the use of the mind as
an independent and active tool. How are we to use it ?
Mankind is of at least two broad categories: those who believe in truth
goodness and ultimate nobility for all -- they are universalists.
Then there are those who are obsessed with a sense of possession, of
isolation, of their own learning and eminence as "Authorities."
It is best left to all to consider which is the best route to follow. As
for myself, I would say that the respective karma of those who follow one
"path" or the other, are divergent.
What we need to say to ourselves is: "What in the end will survive ?"
What is it that will remain longest in men's minds -- is it to be
altruistic nobility, self-sacrifie, or is it it to the the might of arms
born by a "conqueror of men?"
But, again there must be other ideas to share. Dallas
