Dear Phillip:

In the early 30s and 40s there was in Bombay a weekly
news-magazine published and named "Kaiser-i-Hind" (Emperor of
India).

As I recall there is a "medal" (but I do not remember the name
given to it) mentioned in early issues of THEOSOPHIST, possibly
the 2nd volume an an encouragement for writers who knew the
ancient texts (sanskrit) to produce essays on some aspect of the
antique Hindu philosophy. Now I may be wrong in this, but your
question tickles my memory. Also, there may be no relation
between the two items. "Kaiser-i-Hind" sounds as though it
originated in the Victorian era and before the move to Indian
independence brought about a unification in the country and
eventually its freedom, politically. A.O.Hume orginated the
"Indian National Congress." But I am sure you know this.
