In the recent years, the Saint's message of Brotherhood and Vegetarianism
is resonating with the public in South India, especially in the culture
that has grown up with beliefs in gods and goddesses, some of which are
believed to need sacrifices of animals and other creatures. The Saint was
not born in high caste and hence the masses consider him one among them and
this also has helped for them to accept his message. The temple at Vadalur
commemorating him is the only temple in India which will allow any meat
eater to visit. In the center of the temple there is just a lamp and
surrounded by seven veils signifying seven fold nature of man and universe.
He tried to wean away the masses from blind beliefs in gods and goddesses
represented by idols.
