 An Approach to Understand Theosophy-6The following resolution adopted by the Society's
General Council explains further the uniqueness of its character:

Inasmuch
as the Theosophical Society stands for Universal Brotherhood of Humanity ---
any form of racialism or practice based on discrimination between the races, to
the advantage of some and the detriment of others, is contrary to the basic
character of the Society.



The other resolutions of the Society in the matter of
Freedom of Thought and Freedom of the Society are also to be noted here
together. They read as below:

There
is no doctrine, no opinion, by whomsoever taught or held, that is in any way
binding on any member of the Society, none which any member is not free to
accept or reject. Approval of the three objects is the sole condition of
membership. No teacher, or writer, from H P Blavatsky downward, has any
authority to impose the teachings or opinions on members. --- Every member of
the Society is to maintain, defend and act upon these three fundamental
principles of the Society and also fearlessly to exercise his own right of
liberty of thought and of expression thereof, within the limits of courtesy and
consideration for others.



While
cooperating with all other bodies whose aims and activities make such
cooperation possible, the TS is and must remain an organization entirely
independent of them, not committed to any objects save its own, and intent on
developing its own work on the broadest and most inclusive lines, so as to move
towards its own goal as indicated in and by the pursuit of these objects and
that Divine Wisdom which in the abstract is implicit in the title, The
theosophical society.



Since
Universal Brotherhood and the Wisdom are underlined and unlimited, and since
there is complete freedom for each and every member of the Society in thought
and action, the Society seeks ever to maintain its own distinctive and unique
character by remaining free of affiliation or identification with any other
organization.



The entire structure stands on Freedom and Brotherhood
the two strong pillars. It is this basic and unique character that the Society
desires to uphold and maintain in all odd and even circumstances of existence.

In one of her over-simplified, yet pregnant with
meaning, statement, Madame Blavatsky says: Becoming a 'theosophist' is very
easy. The requisites for a person, she suggests here are the following:

1.
Average intellectual capacity

2.
Leaning towards the metaphysical, of
pure, unselfish life

3.
Finding more joy in helping the
neighbors than receiving help himself

4.
Readiness to sacrifice own pleasures
for the sake of other people

5.
Love for truth, goodness and wisdom
for their own sake, not for the benefit they may confer.



The Society encourages its members on the above lines
and inspires them for action towards Right Living. It stands to be a mirror of
Right relationship. As is recently asserted by the International President of
the Society in an exclusive article, the basic work of the Society is 'the
spiritual regeneration of the world by the regeneration of individuals.-- the study must evoke awareness of the
essential need of humanity, and help to make it healthy morally,
psychologically and spiritually'. Effort is made to make them, the members,
realize that empowerment is a matter of self-acquisition but not one of a
borrowed or an endowed quality. Realization means 'making the factor real.'
What makes theosophy unique is its statement that it is only 'a restatement of
the eternal verities,' and therefore is nobody's exclusive property. The
philosophical pointers are: Evolution, Emanation of Man, Behavior, Action,
Wisdom, Will Power, Continuity of Life, Transformation, Achievement and Accomplishment,
Progression and Perfection of Humanity and the further paths of the obligatory
journey. Common and popular misconceptions that have for historical and
geographical reasons crept into the human thought and anticipations are to be
slowly, gradually erased by calm persuasion and reasoning at all levels of
understanding. 'There is no Religion higher than Truth,' is the motto of the
Society and this is an English version of the Sanskrit saying "Sathyath-na-asti-paradharmah."
We will notice Dharma is translated
as Religion while it is more than that. It means and includes many terms such
as law, the Being, the capacity to hold everything together, the arrival of
Wholeness which is again Holiness.
Theosophy elucidates the multiplicity, dynamism and a means to that Holiness, a
Plan behind all manifestation. The understanding of this, even a glimpse of it,
shall bring happiness and prosperity to one and all, the many. Peace to all
beings; Bahujana Hitaya and Bahujana Sukhaya --are the identical
