Approach to Understand Theosophy -4.
The main stress in theosophical understanding is the
'ethics' of it. Without the right understanding and right thinking one can
never come to right action. The dualities such as right-wrong, good-evil,
liberty-despotism, pain-pleasure, egotism-altruism are difficult enough to
comprehend. Theosophy is the supplier of energy/skill to obtain the right and
consistent solutions to all human problems, provided the approach is honest and
sincere enough. If one is sullied in sorts of self-importance,
self-centeredness he is off the mark and cannot find the right solution. If
theosophy were ever a religion, a philosophy, a science alone, it would deserve only our rejection. It is the
higher knowledge for which the humanity was ever craving and with its aid we
shall be enabled to come nearer the supreme splendor of manifestation. We
become the strong pillars of that Wisdom that 'orders everything'.
While presenting the tenets of theosophy and the working
objects of the Theosophical Society, we often get into a difficulty, for, prima facie, all contemporary thoughts
offered appear to be the same, identical in their teaching and truthful in
their doctrines. There is abundant commonality in the systems and their
workings. What is specific and unique with Theosophy is to be pointedly, distinctly
and discreetly made known to the public at large. It is not with a motive to
play one against the other or challenge a system. Public mind should have in
juxtaposition all the makings and marks of the systems, so that the discerning
could choose what they think they need.
As we already stated Theosophy is not a Religion. It is the Universal Ancient
Wisdom-Religion. Theosophy is the 'container' and 'initiator' of all religions,
including the philosophies and sciences connected thereto. The philosophy presented
by the theosophical society and its literature is not 'person' oriented. It is,
rather, a 'Principle' oriented one. The tenets of the Ancient Wisdom Religion
are eternal, and an effort is made to state how infinite and time-tested too
they are by drawing attention to the age-old scriptural texts of the world
mythologies. For example, while speaking in India we use parallels from the
scriptures, Vedas and Upanishads to explain the concepts and
to say how supportive they are. But we do not attribute a character of
authority to them, however good and great they are. They are used for the
simple reason that the listeners here are aware of them already and such usage
would aid their easier comprehension.
