M. Sufilight says:
I wonder how can you say such a thing. The Theosophical Society was a non-sectarian body. And she ruined this by becoming political, did she not?. And by using the the Theosophical Society's publishing press to publish political papers with? And she promoted an emotional Messiah and thereby hampered the whole idea about freedom of thought, did she not?

In other respects I do follow your views. She wrote, as I see it, some books, which in fact have helped a number of seekers after truth.
The whole idea about birthdays and departure days and sacred days etc. is perhaps to some important.
But why have it as a tradition for some and not for others? Is it a sectarian thing?

I just asked a few polite questions.
Please do not take them offensive, I am merely inquiring so to learn and understand.
I do not claim myself to be infallible. I really find the whole thing interesting.

Subject: theos-talk Annie Besant Birth Anniversary

Annie Besant was born on October 1, 1847 and Oct 1 is celebrated through out
India commemorating her work in India in political, social and theosophical
areas. Her work especially in organizing the educational centers all over
the county and the establishment of Benares Hindu University were great
achievements benefitting many in India. Today, Benares Hindu University is a
premier educational institution. She was also the first foreign born
national to be elected the President of Indian National Congress. Her
activities in public causes helped theosophical movement as well and I think
her prime focus on the First Object of TS - Brotherhood not on the nuances
  of the unseen world.

If Indiaâs economy is booming and standard of living improved for the low
end of the population, much of it can be ascribed to the educational system
in India whose foundation was nurtured by her efforts.
