Breakins of email accounts

Frequently many email accounts are compromised and those who get into them
use the address book to spam everyone on it. One of the first indications of
break in is that they change the password so that you cannot access it. The
only way to fix it is to change the password. Email providers suggest
everyone have an alternative email address to which a temporary password can
be sent. In some cases, it can be sent to your phone as well. So everyone
would be well advised to have atleast two email address just to take care of
this emergent situation. Any additional ideas??
