Dear John and friends

My views are:

Thanks for answering.

I will ask so to clarify what you actually are forwarding with regard to the Kagyu branch of Tibetan Buddhism.

--- And what is the actual difference between the Kagyu doctrine you mention and the Gelugpa Prasangika doctrine by Buddhapalita?

--- Why is the Kagyu Shentong view superior to the Absolute Negation doctrine (negation of the four extremes) given by Blavatsky, Tsong-Khapa and Buddhapalita?

And I ask again:
How many members of the present day theosophical groups or off-shoot branches promotes such a Rang-Tong teaching these days instead of a Shentong one?

CORRECTED LINKS IN THE BELOW

Allright I am patient.

Try this and if it fails copy + paste the title of the book and search the link in google or elsewhere:

Augustus le Plongeon - Sacred Mysteries Among the Mayas and the Quiches 11500 Years Ago
(Sorry about the quality of the book in this link.)

Queen M'oo and the Egyptian sphinx (1896)
(About the Troano Codex, which is said to describe the sinking of Atlantis. See page 147. - There are a number of photos and drawings in the book as well. Augustus le Plongeon took a lot of photos. Some might call him a past version of Graham Hancock or von Daniken - smile... )

Interestingly we find that H. P. Blavatsky quotes one of Augustus le Plongeon's books in the Secret Doctrine Vol. I, p. 268 og Vol. II, p. 34 footnotes.

What I am doing:
I have been wondering WHICH branch within esoteric Buddhism is closest to present day known Tibetan Buddhism?

Is it Madhyamika and Rang-Tong teachings - and the Prasanga or Prasangika doctrine mentioned by Tsong-Khapa and Blavatsky or another branch?
And how many members of the present day theosophical groups or off-shoot branches promotes such a Rang-Tong teaching these days instead of a Shentong one?

  Morten,
Hmmm, my guess would probably be the Black hat Kagyu. Self-emptiness and Other-emptiness are at least to my personal view a Unity when the Self is empty then the other is also empty since there is only the ultimate void without an abiding self, kunji nanparshespa. Just by off the top of my head reply.

  Regards,
  John

  Morten,
Thank for the links. The first link worked, the 2nd and 3rd link would not execute and displayed an error msg. I really enjoyed read the Lawrence Desmond Article on the Le Plongeons. While reading it I wondered if H.P.B. might have made a contact with Le Plongeon on that Peru boat ride trip that was mentioned on this Forum last year.

  Regards,
Have been wondering what you were up too recently. John

  Dear friends

Are any of you able to confirm the following and perhaps add more info?

  OF FACTS AND HEARSAY:
  BRINGING AUGUSTUS LE PLONGEON
  INTO FOCUS
  by Lawrence G. Desmond, Ph.D.
"The search for every trace of Le Plongeon took me to evermore obscure corners. He was a Freemason, and during her last years, Alice had contact with the Theosophical Society founded by Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. In 1890 Alice delivered a lecture titled "The Mayas" to the Blavatsky Lodge of the society (Le Plongeon 1890). In 1913, The Word Magazine, another publication of the society, published posthumously Le Plongeon's key work on the founding of Egypt by the Maya, "The Origin of the Egyptians" (Le Plongeon 1913-1914).
In New York I visited the Theosophical Society of America, the Olcott Library, and the United Lodge of Theosophists; in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Masonic Temple; in Washington, D.C., the library of the Supreme Council 33, Scottish Rite; in Spring Valley, New York, the Anthroposophical Society (they had published a paperback reprint of Le Plongeon's book on Mayan cultural diffusion, Queen Moo and the Egyptian Sphinx), and later in the year, the Theosophy Company in Los Angeles. I was never able to establish a direct connection between the Le Plongeons and Theosophy, and I have never been able to determine Le Plongeon's grade or lodge in Freemasonry. "

  M. Sufilight asks:
Did Alice wife of Augustus Le Plongeon deliver a lecture to the Blavatsky Lodge in 1890?
What Masonic group did Augustus Le Plongeon belong to?
