Re: theos-talk Re: TS International President's comments on Judge Case

I have been advocating the view that pricey theosophical books keeps them
out of reach for most theosophists except a few fat cats and the only way to
make them available easily to the world is to put out pdf version with a
suggested donation of a couple of dollars much like shareware. This is
falling on the deaf ear. Even some misguided theosophists have suggested
that important material should not be made available for easy reading, which
goes against the object of publishing. Theosophical material pricing seems
to be handed over to business oriented MBAs who have no clue to what
theosophy is and what its objective is and where most theosophists live in
the world and that most them work for living on a month to month budget. By
this attitude even with good intentions the decision makers are hurting
theosophy and will do so for years to come. In this situation, there is
always the threat from fast, inexpensive scanners when can convert printed
material to pdf in no time.

Let us all pray and our collective thought forms may impinge on the decision
makers and it may dawn upon them that status quo is not acceptable. I hope
theosophists take on this policy issue with the same commitment and energy
they have shown on other theosophical matters and if this is done, I am sure
there will be change of mind and it would both preserve the material into
the future as well as make them accessible worldwide with godspeed. We need
the help of everyone in the theosophical world.

By the way, TUP has seen the light and a recent compilation is going to be
made available both in print and pdf formats. Good Karma is going to accrue
those responsible for this earth shaking decision. Let us congratulate them
and let us hope we see more such electronic publications.
