The wills of HPB? Her death in 1891, at the age of not quite 60, was very premature. I wonder what she could and would have done if she had lived on another 20 or 30 or more years, as did most of the other founding members of Theosophy. She would have been able to pre-empt and prevent the propagation of many of the errors made by subsequent leaders of the movement. As for her last will, was it properly executed, or were there disputes?
In those days (1890s), average life expectancy in Europe and North America was less than 50, not as the result of people ageing faster then, but because of an high rate of infectious diseases (especially tuberculosis, along with poliomyelitis, cholera, smallpox, abcesses, etc.), affecting especially younger people, and against which there was then little or no immunization or adequate treatment with antibiotics and other means yet to be discovered. There was also little in the way of effective treatment of cancer, surgery to remove tumors risking infection because of antibiotics not having been discovered. Socioeconomic class had a very marked effect on life expectancy, more so than today.
