Very true. But this is not limited to the west by any means. Nor is it limited to the overt gurus who function in such a crude and obvious manner. We all need to do a bit of soul searching. The grip of power and pelf is very strong even in leaders of organizations supposedly set up with the mission claiming 'there is no religion higher than truth'. Therefore those like Krishnamurti who really seem to put truth above everything else unfortunately become (or in our ignorance are perceived to be) a threat to the organization, its leaders, hierarchies and practises. I am afraid we are in a situation where along the lines of Bernard Shaw ("The first and last christian died on the cross") we will have to be saying "The first and last true Theosophist died near a pepper tree ".
