Re: theos-talk Electronic version of theosophical books

It looks like the potential possibilities of using electronic format of
publications is enormous. In addition to what Chan has mentioned, here are
some additional benefits:
The print size of some books is small. Many older people are more
comfortable with larger print size. With a computer display it is easy to
zoom to any size.
We also have blind people. In old days, Braille was invented. Braille book
production was later automated. Now with readers capable of reading the
books and 'speak' on headphones, anyone who is not able to visually read a
book and listen to them in audio. Also there is no much additional cost is
involved.
Many know that in the cyberspace many pdf books are in circulation, courtesy
of enthusiasts of scanning.
I had a chance to scan a paperback and all it took was to cut off the
binding and 400+ pages were scanned in less than 30 minutes. The post
processing - ocring and desqewing and removing any blotches in the
background will take about an hour of time.
So it is high time that all theosophical books be made available in pdf
format for free. Otherwise scanners will do the job. The urgency is all the
more so due to the high cost of books put out by theosophical publishers. We
have seen the exhorbitant price SD Commentaries, the high cost of Mills's
comments on Mahatma Letters and the upcoming Theosophical Encyclopedia
priced at $48.00.
Recently there was a request for Hodson's Light of the Sanctuary; and this
book sells on Amazon for $322.00. How many theosophists in the world can
afford to purchase this? Not many, except for some super rich ones who may
want to adorn their bookshelves with impressive titles.
If anyone sees pdf files of any of the new books, it would be interesting to
know.
