You ever read that book a/o watch that movie - specifically, the Cronos eating its own children part - imo, there's a real reason those Cronies were portrayed as having the physical problems they did; specifically, man is not enabled (genetically) to eat its own.  

And, thus or consequently Cronies would in fact just mess up their genetic code until they inevitably disable/malfunction themselves and their offspring/own.

It is, simply put and imo, self mutilation, and one sure fire route to a very real is-not/suicide.
