Sorry for the misunderstanding, Leon.
Excellent, so we're pretty certain that the donor was Helen Dukas. That makes the story even more interesting. How hard would it be to find out whether or not Ms. Dukas ever traveled to India, either in that time-frame or at all? That might be a worthy followup.
As it is, Michael Williams has verified the existence of the article by Mike Brown. A copy is in microfilm at the Ojai Public Library. The article, "I Visited Professor Einstein" is in the Ojai Valley News, from September 28, 1983. I've been looking for someone to go to the Ojai Library to have a copy of the article made for posting over at Theosophy.net.

As I said, I don't remember if one of the similarly sari dressed woman in the party accompanying Mrs. Wadia told me she was at the Lodge in Adyar when the book was delivered, or it was Mrs. Wadia who told me.

Who apparently said she was Einstein's niece wherever she traveled after his death, to avoid any scandal... Since it was rumored that she was also Einstein's lover. It's been recorded that Einstein made her the executor of his estate, and that she received all his personal possessions besides being willed much more money than the total given to all his family and relatives after he died. Thus, the story that she was at Einstein's bedside when he died, and that she knew about the SD being on his desktop all the time she was with him during his tenure at Princeton, rings true.

Is it also a coincidence that I met Dr Einstein in my Uncle's house in Brooklyn, a wealthy Wall Street Broker (also a member of Einstein's sponsoring group) and that I was the 11 year old kid he explained his theory of relativity to, and later I read somewhere that he said, "No scientific theory is worth anything unless it can be explained to a 12 year old child". Was it also a coincidence that one of the problems on a day long test I took when I was 18 that helped me win a finalist position in the Westinghouse Science Survey (Now Intel Science Talent Search) was; Read the copy of the original theory of Special Relativity that Einstein published for his thesis in 1905, and answer a series of difficult questions about it, all within a half hour? Incidentally, I got an "A" on that problem. ;-)

And that it may have been his friend, Nobel Prize Winner Robert Millikan, whom he met in Berlin and corresponded with (also a known Mason and possibly a theosophist) who gave Einstein the original edition of the Secret Doctrine.
