I agree with you Clint.

A few views on your questions:

The core life-changing experience, if there was one, only happened through the use of continous spiritual efforts. Many failed (at least temporarily) on the path among the members of the Theosophical Society in the early days. And something like that is always bound to happen, - especially when one plays with fire. Yet, many succeded, and some more than others. Blavatsky said Damodar K. Mavalankar was one of the best examples of success, yet he also had his fall in the end according some theosophical letters.

The transmission occurs on the more physical level through various organisations, and not only those who use the name theosophical and similar. But none or very few of these are today operating in accordance with the original lines as they were given by the funders of the Theosophical Society. - H. P. Blavatsky and the founders original Programe suggested the members to study first and prepare themselves for esoteric knowledge or what in Buddhism sometimes is called oral or "oral" trasmissions, or chelaship. I will most certainly tell the readers as well as you Clint, that the Masters and their advanced Chelas always are near the planet and ready to help anyone along, when the time is ripe. But I do not forward this view as a dogma, but as a hypothesis to consider, while I claim that I know about this.

This teaching or experience is today being transmitted depending on time, place, people, teacher and circumstances. The Internet is helpful to some beginner-Seekers these days. To others it is not. It depends on various things.

  It is images, symbols, memories of experiences that one will take beyond, and certainly not the kind of knowledge imparted by acres/hectares of printed pages and hours of lectures!
  It is these things that must be the primary transmission of Theosophical gnosis. If there aren't such things kept as a precious inheritance by the TS, then the whole thing is a social club, and from the looks of it, a failed one at that.
  An Esoteric section is necessary if said knowledge is better imparted as a Mystery, not to exclude folks, but to make the transmission as literally impressive as it can be. Usually such a thing can be spoken of, but can never be fully known without passing through the procedure or initiation or whatever first. In other words, if you haven't been there, done that, and seen it, felt it, maybe even tasted and smelled it, you just won't know, even if you have the whole thing written out in front of you.
  But again, what was the core, life-changing experience that HPB and her friends had, and how is that being transmitted to us today? Is it? If not, why not?
