Re: Theos-World Adyar Convention Reporting

Dear Marie,

No, she sometimes even allows Non-members to reside at Adyar. But why she does to decide to allow someone or disallow someone is not clear cut and can often be based on her own or her other officers at Adyar's impressions of a person. There is no clear cut rule as to who may or may not reside at Adyar and more often than not, those who do not impress her niece-in-law Uma Nilakanta are not allowed a second chance to visit and stay. But the TS is not Uma Nilakanta (who looks after Leadbeater Chambers) or even Mrs Burnier.

To my own knowledge, we have lost some probable "serious members" solely because the egos of the officers concerned were not happy. Now tell me is that reason enough to reject a non-member from exploring?

Qeury to Preethi: Does Radha exclude TS members that are not ES members from residence at Adyar?

MKR,

The rules are different for Indians and Foreigners.. .Foreigners do have to get their GS's approval to reside at Adyar.

If you went back a few decades, you would see why this is followed. During John Coats' time, we sometimes had even hippies residing at Adyar. People would go to Adyar and smoke, drink and do many other things contrary to the spiritual atmosphere at Adyar.

I was not there at that time, but these are things I have heard when I queried the President's unwillingness to allow some people -- members or otherwise -- to enter and reside on campus.

So, when Mrs Burnier became President, she set out these rules as to what may be done to screen out any unwanted elements from entering and residing on campus at Adyar. I do appreciate that move, for I do believe -- as she does and many others too -- that the spiritual atmosphere in Adyar must be preserved...

But when taken to the extreme, it means that Mrs Burnier then uses that very privilege she introduced to move out or prevent anyone from entering Adyar who is not good for her own ego...this rule has now taken away from the openness and regeneration that is needed for Adyar to survive as a spiritual centre.

When I was a member of the Indian Section and attended the conventions, the

process was very simple. If you are uptodate on your dues, then you are

allowed to register and attend. No one asked me about my allegiance to

anyone nor was I asked about how many meetings I have attended.

I doubt if the process has changed. With the large number of Indian members

attending the convention, which is to be expected, anything else would be

impractical.
