My views are:

Well some of us do not find life and death so important, because we know both occur frequently, and as something quite natural, and we or they know what is going on on this planet every day.

All this talk about the 'Cult of the Death' reminded me of the notorious Mulla Nasrudin. The Middle Eastern jokester...


* NASRUDIN's HEN* 
The local farmer Nasrudin had lost one of his hens. He searched it for a while, but it was nowhere. Then he took a small peace of black cloth and put it around the neck of another hen. People asked him: 
Hodja, what is this? 
This hen is mourning for its mother !

* NASRUDIN IN ONE-POINTEDNESS*

Nasrudin was living in a small village near Lahore.
It happened one sunny summer morning, that the word spread, that the lokal village mayor had died. He was a well-respected man, although somewaht of a misery. Yet people liked him because he had done several good deeds to the locals.

A huge funeral procession gathered, so to follow the coffin to its final resting place.
People wore a black cloth around their right arm, as it has been the custom in that village for centuries.

Nasrudin was know as a sort of local nutter or strange personage. He had also heard about the funeral and put on a huge black scarf on his right arm, and went for funeral. Because Nasrudin thought for him self, I better show that I really do mourn the mayor, so the bigger scarf the better. And of course Nasrudin was noticed at the funeral, because of the huge scarf, with one end almost touching the ground.

After the funeral days went by again in the small village. Nasrudin kept his black scarf on his right arm en the following days. 

A few weeks passed bylike this. Nasrudin was his way down to the local grocery seeking to buy a huge melon this hot summerday. While he was walking down the main street in the small village,  he noticed, that people was wishpering and looking at him when they passed by.
And after a few minutes a local man wellknown to Nasrudin came across the street and asked him:
"Why on Earth do you still wear that black scarf Nasrudin?"

Nasrudin answered with a smile: 
"Well, at the mayors funeral I suddenly realised that if mourning was that important, I better wear the scarf everyday, because, there is at least one person dying each day on this planet."

    That is interesting and it is indeed very very sad.

  I did not know that is how things are done in Adyar. When was the policy
  started? It would be interesting for historians to find out.

  When an important key international officer of TS and especially someone who
  was a dedicated long term member passes away, I think it is a basic courtesy
  to let the world know about it, not weeks or months after the event in this
  Internet age. Also, in this part of the world no one reads the Adyar
  Newsletter. Today such notifications can be done for free.

  Death of a dedicated member should not be taken as a simple routine event in
  anyone's life. To get a true perspective, all one has to do is to read the
  early theosophical history.

  When Olcott passed away, the Inner Founders took the unusual step of
  personally showing up at his death bed to convey their gratitude for the
  dedication and hard work he did for the theosophical movement. This has to
  be viewed in the light of the fact that after the 1900 letter, we have never
  heard from any of them till today.

  In today's world, with Internet, information can be distributed at no cost
  and also immediately. Is it not also in the best interests of the TS for
  keeping members updated on all important events taking place in Adyar and
  other National Centers? Such frequent contact with members will foster to
  bring members together. It is the disconnect and secrecy of operations that
  led to the problems starting with last year's election and the followup.
  This environment is not helpful for the health and future of the TS.

  Everyone on this list knows that if Internet was not there, we will today
  have a very different TS especially after the last GC meeting where the
  Ultra Secret disenfranchisement move would have been approved and
  implemented with some of the GC members seizing the TS presidency. Let us be
  grateful for the Internet for its role in protecting TS and let us make use
  of it in establishing and maintaining continuous contact with members around
  the world.

  The incident of not quickly reporting the death of Dr. Agarwal is a black
  eye which will not be forgotten by many members for a long time to come.
