Adyar is in danger

Dear Friends,
Tamil Nadu Government is planning to run a loop of its motorway over the estate of the Theosophical Society in Adyar, Chennai. This motorway is called elevated road and it is even 5.5 meters high and has three tiers.
One part of the loop goes over the Social Welfare Centre's compound which serves poor children and women. This Centre is owned by the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS), founded by Annie Besant in 1908. The Government says it must annex an area off that land.
Many fishers and residents in Chennai Region have protested the proposal since it would impact on the environment fatally and would remove their living and homes. Without mentioning the road noise which would spoil peace. The Adyar estate is a bird sanctuary.
Many members of the TS Adyar are shocked. Right now national Sections of the Theosophical Society Adyar and members of the Theosophical Order of Service (TOS) are sending appeals to the State of Tamil Nadu in order to stop the project.
