I think you are being a bit harsh old boy - these neolithic people were astrological geniuses, they also had running water and sewerage - and discovered CHOCOLATE - your basing your ideas on what some archeologist has written about them.

What is a fact abot 2012 is that the planets will be in alignment which as far as we know has never been recorded as having occured in the past, hence no way of knowing the outcome. We now know that sun spots have an effect on our globe, so why be hesitant about planetary alignments?

If this alignment effects the position of the poles (which we know has occured in the past) then we can safely assume that there will be effects from this change.
