But Govert, no matter how one looks at it JK
did bring a teaching to the world  -  he, as far
as I know, never stated he was the overshadowing
of Maitreya to those around him or the wider
community, but his teaching (whether inspired by
higher forces or himself) came during kali yuga,
the most materialstic time of all the yugas, and he pointed the
way to unpacking the workings of the personal
ego.  No point in talking about union with higher
self when the lower self is steeped in materialism and has
no chance of union with higher manas?

I believe his teachings on lower manas were invaluable. To
me, at least, they were invaluable, as the spotlight came
from without to within.

Dear Cass,

I think that also here one should make a periodization of the ways K related to the WT project.

During his formative years he might have had some natural doubts, but these were mostly overcome by his commitment to the cause.

>From ca. 1923 K started re-defining the WT role in more mystical terms and this might have looked contradictory at times.

Starting ca. 1927 K was putting out contradictory statements in different directions about his metaphysical status as he was re-defining the WT role on his own terms.

Later the contradictions became more blatant and possibly opportunistic, and also more problematic because of the whole memory issue.

During the 1970s his self-perception seems to have stabilized as he made a series of claims both openly and to friends that he was The Teacher.

The above short analysis should serve as an example to clarify the requirement of historical contextualization when any of these very complex issues are considered.

Therefore Anand doesn't have enough grounds to make the generalization that "Theosophists are wrongly calling J. Krishnamurti World Teacher, when Krishnamurti himself made it clear that he was not the World Teacher" and you, Cass, don't have enough grounds to declare that K was making an unambiguous, honest statement.

Prof. Catherine Wessinger says
"He (J.Krishnamurti) told a friend I don't give a damn about World Teacher and he wondered why they had picked him."
and
"He made it clear that he was not the world teacher, not the messiah"
It appears that Theosophists are wrongly calling J. Krishnamurti World Teacher, when Krishnamurti himself made it clear that he was not the World Teacher.
