It is just logical, as one of the meanings of the word "dug" can be "poison". So dugpas are poisonous, harmful, while gelugpas are doing the good.
So the phrase from the Mahatma Letters "the Dugpas and the Gelukpas are not fighting but in Tibet alone" shouldn't be understand as a strife between two schools of budhhism, as it is oftenly misinterpreted, but as a fight between the evil and good forces.
While the school of buddhism is called correctly "`brug pa" and shouldn't be confounded with the dugpas.
