Dear Daniel,

CWL looks here like a good salesman for AB. And maybe he was right. One letter from a Master can do miracles and AB was certainly open for such influence. After all her experience with what she thought to be the Lord of the World and Aghastya around 1914 was such that she followed the general plan as suggested to her for reform of bad Indian customs and the emancipation of its political status. Maybe the 1900 letter straightened her out. Therefore both KH and CWL were possibly right, if you take into account the historicity of the context. Or she did not straighten out. The case is often made that she came under the spell of CWL. But again, maybe CWL was right with most of his visions and early interaction with the young Krishanmurti and the Masters as I belief it to be the case.

  In the 1900 Koot Hoomi letter to Annie Besant, one reads:

  "Says a Tibetan proverb 'credulity breeds credulity and
  ends in hypocrisy.'....The intense desire to see
  Upasika [HPB] reincarnate at once has raised a
  misleading mayavic ideation...."

  "You have for some time been under deluding influences.
  Shun pride, vanity and love of power. Be not guided
  by emotion but learn to stand alone. Be accurate and
  critical rather than credulous. The mistakes of the
  past in the old religions must not be glossed over
  with imaginary explanations...."

  "The best corrective of error is an honest and
  open-minded examination of all facts subjective
  and objective...."

  "You will have to leave a good deal of your emotions
  and credulity before you become a safe guide among
  the influences that will commence to work in the new
  cycle."

  Now COMPARE and CONTRAST the above serious & sobering K.H.
  communication with what Charles Leadbeater said about Mrs. Besant:

  "What can I say to you of your President [Annie
  Besant] that you do not know already? Her colossal
  intellect, her unfailing wisdom, her unrivalled
  eloquence, her splendid forgetfulness of self,
  her untiring devotion of work for others - all
  these are but a small part of her greatness;
  they are on the surface, they may be seen by all,
  they leap to the eyes. But there are other qualities,
  other powers, of which you cannot know, because they
  pertain to the secrets of Initiation. She is a
  pupil of our Masters; from the fount of Their
  archaic wisdom she derives her own, the plans which
  she is carrying out are Their plans for the welfare
  of the world. THINK THEREFORE, HOW GREAT AN
  HONOUR IT IS FOR YOU that you should be permitted
  to work under her, for in doing so you are virtually
  working under Them. THINK HOW WATCHFUL YOU SHOULD
  BE TO MISS NO HINT WHICH FALLS FROM HER LIPS, to carry
  out EXACTLY whatever instructions she may give to you.

  Remember...there will be times when you cannot
  understand her motives, for she is taking into account
  many things which you cannot see and of which
  she must not tell you. BUT WHETHER YOU UNDERSTAND
  OR NOT, YOU WILL BE WISE TO FOLLOW HER IMPLICITLY, JUST
  BECAUSE SHE KNOWS.

  THIS IS NOT MERE SUPPOSITION ON MY PART, NO MERE
  FLIGHT OF THE IMAGINATION; I HAVE STOOD BESIDE YOUR
  PRESIDENT IN THE PRESENCE OF THE SUPREME DIRECTOR
  OF EVOLUTION ON THIS GLOBE, AND I KNOW WHEREOF I
  SPEAK. Let the wise hear my words, and act accordingly."
