HPB, OLCOTT, WQJ, AND PAST PRESIDENTS TURNING IN THEIR GRAVES!

Looking at the events around the TS during the past year, it makes me wonder
if the Founders â HPB, Olcott and WQJ and all the past Presidents of TS, are
turning in their graves.

The motto of TS is THERE IS NO RELIGION HIGHER THAN TRUTH. But when we see
the clear pattern in the various events during the last year, there seems to
be a great disconnect between the motto and the events in which the elected
leaders have participated. If HPB and others were witnessing them, they
would be turning in their graves. Let us briefly review the events and which
will speak for themselves.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Several elected leaders of National Sections, especially from the European
and Western countries, tried to portray a picture of the sitting President
as physically and mentally very sick and hence should be defeated. Many
members were informed of this picture in early stage of the electioneering,
believed it, because it was coming from their elected leaders.

Lo and behold, soon three physicians from two continents (one a National
Secretary) declared her fit both physically and mentally. Even after this
objective professional assessment, no effort was made by those who wanted to
defeat her to level with their membership and inform them of the factual
information contradicting their earlier claims.

ELECTION RESULTS

Radha Burnier was elected with an overwhelming number of votes. When this
happened, instead of accepting the decision of the voters, those who wanted
to defeat her complained about defective voting in the Indian Section.
Indian Section is the largest section in the World and the turnout was also
very high compared to other sections. These allegations were just
allegations without substantive factual evidence. When the Indian Section
questioned these allegations, it was met with silence.

DISENFRANCHISEMENT/COUP ATTEMPT

Many members thought that voters having had their say, we will get on with
our main mission, further the cause of theosophy. They were entirely
mistaken. One morning everyone woke up to find a plan to disenfranchise
members all over the world and the GC to seize control of the presidency.
Already, GC has the monopoly to nominate the candidates. The well crafted
coup plan, moved to monopolize the appointment (the election being just a
farce) by the GC thus seizing the control of the president resulting in
making the president a puppet in the hands of a small group of GC members.

What was shocking to members around the world was the fact that the plan was
crafted in greatest secrecy and was to be taken up in the upcoming GC
meeting and get it approved speedily. Not even long time members working in
Adyar, Wheaton, and other International centers even had an inkling of the
move. All woke up one day to find the shocking news from Internet. But for
the Internet and the maillists such as theos-talk, no one would have known
about it until it was a fait accompli and nothing much can be done by
members.

The disclosure of this plan met with member outrage from every part of the
world and we should not be surprised if it is moved forward again when we
least expect it. All of us should be vigilant and watchful.

The reader can decide for himself or herself, if this is how an organization
which prides itself of propagating Brotherhood/Sisterhood to the world,
should treat its members.

ALLEGATIONS OF ILLEGALITY

In the light of the above events, eyes of all members were on the GC meeting
in December. Some weeks after the meeting, members learnt a few crumbs about
the business transacted in the meeting. An allegation made by some of the
members who were in the camp that wanted to defeat Radha Burnier, that there
was illegality in the election deadline for the Indian Section.

A committee consisting of some highly regarded, long time TS members with
impeccable integrity was responsible for all aspects of the election. If the
election committee decided to extend the voting deadline for the Indian
Section, it is beyond imagination they would have done anything illegal in
violation of the rules under which the election was conducted. The members
of the committee are such highly ethical people, that if they saw any
illegality, they would not have hesitated to resign immediately and would
not have kept quiet and in this day and age of Internet, all of us would
have known it.

The allegation of illegality raises some basic questions. First of all, when
any GC member thought anything being illegal, they need to have taken the
help of lawyers to examine the facts before coming to any conclusion about
legality or otherwise. Non lawyers and laymen and laywomen and scholars and
others are not competent to come to judgement about legal matters. Also
these are important legal issues and without substantive legally sound
evidence of illegality, it is not fair to assail the integrity of the
members of the election committee.

If this is a serious issue, why was it not brought up in the meeting? Two
tie votes in the proceeding shows that if factual supporting evidence was
presented in the meeting, a large majority of the members would have
supported discussion on it and further action. One wonders if this is just a
red herring to divert the attention of the members from other more
fundamental and important issues and try to paint somehow the Indian Section
voting is faulty. If there is a continuous chorus of inaccurate or
misleading information, in due course current and potential future members
will start believing in them.

TRANSPARENCY

Lack of transparency is root cause of all the troubles TS is facing. While
allowing observers in the meeting is first good step, it is only a first
step. Details about the meeting was very slow in coming out. I feel that
only crumbs of the proceedings have come out, with of course each one's spin
and the secrecy continues, because secrecy is helpful to the GC members and
not the membership. Based on the recent past experience, we have to suspect
more is going on behind the scenes.

WHY HPB AND OTHER LEADERS ARE TURNING IN THEIR GRAVES

HPB and other leaders in their graves could not even in their dreams imagine
what is happening in the TS they built on the foundation of Brotherhood
(Sisterhood) with the simple, yet very basic motto â THERE IS NO RELIGION
HIGHER THAN TRUTH.

Like the Coloumb crisis, (where the real culprits were the Dugpas and
Shammars) TS will eventually come out of the current crisis; yet we do not
know what a heavy price would be paid by TS in the set back in its long term
mission to help the Orphan Humanity.

Many members and others are not aware of this mailing list. You may want to
pass on the info to them so that they can keep up with the developments and
other items of interest.
