Yes, disenfranchisement is the biggest threat at present. But there
are also some other big challenges before TS. 
One challenge is to separate Theosophy and J. Krishnamurti's teaching.
It is difficult because followers of J. Krishnamurti are infiltrated
in the TS. Rather Radha Burnier made them infiltrate TS and she is
giving preference to Krishnamurtians over true Theosophists. 
Problems are there, but they can be solved if members make determined
efforts to make TS progress in the right direction.
