And there is a faithful cult gathering around The Coming Race [published anonymously in 1871] â a pioneer work of science fiction.â Bulwer has another less exalted claim to fame. The subterranean race in this latter work possess a mysterious source of power called vril, which led an enterprising meat-extract manufacturer to combine the term with âbovineâ; thus the elixir Bovril came into the world. Like Bulwer-Lyttonâs novels, it is an acquired taste. Madame Blavatsky, that occult magpie, adopted vril into Theosophy, claming that the Atlanteans used it to power their flying craft (verily there is no religion higher than truth!).
Â
I had to laugh - HPB an occult magpie - as she stated of another detractor - he learned his mysticism from a beheaded dumpkoff

Cass,
Hmmm I was just reading an interesting origination that seems somewhat aligned:
>>>Mash-mak Said to be used by the Atlanteans, the fourth root-race, for the great potent sidereal force, which Bulwer Lytton called in one of its earthly manifestations Vril.<<<
Here is the link:

Well said, Cass.
I never have found anything anti-semitic (directed against ethnological units of Semits, of Arab or Jewish origin) or racist in Blavatsky's writings.
Exept you call the fact racist that races exists and that races differ psychical and spiritual.
But that would make the Mahatmas also racists.

Yes I have seen the documentary Theo and I was disappointed to hear that you held the opinion that HPB held anti-semitic and racist ideas. I can only think that you haven't understood what she was saying. However, if you would like to give examples of these ideas we can discuss it.
Seems to me HPB saw the problem if this force got into the wrong hands and intuitively I think that is why Keely abandoned his experiments.
Cass
Mash-mak Said to be used by the Atlanteans, the fourth root-race, for the great potent sidereal force, which Bulwer Lytton called in one of its earthly manifestations Vril.
"It is this vibratory Force, which, when aimed at an army from an Agni Rath fixed on a flying vessel, a balloon, according to the instructions found in Ashtar Vidya, reduced to ashes 100,000 men and elephants, as easily as it would a dead rat. It is allegorised in the Vishnu Purana, "in the fable about the sage Kapila whose glance made a mountain of ashes of King Sagara's 60,000 sons, and which is explained in the esoteric works, and referred to as the Kapilaksha -- 'Kapila's Eye' " (SD 1:563).
