Southern India has a very warm climate all thru the year and most sleep on
the floor on a mat made of dried grass or a plain sheet of cloth. If you
read Ernest Wood's book "Is this theosophy?", he describes how he got used
to sleeping on hard flat surface.

Now I live in the USA. Some years ago, one of my friend's son was the sales
rep for a major bed manufacturer and he get to purchase any bed at cost and
he offered that I can buy any bed I want. I told him that I am quite happily
sleeping on a very cheap bed and when I sleep I do not know where I am
sleeping. I added that for several decades when I was in S India, I slept on
the floor like everybody else, rich and poor. My friend made a comment in
jest that if his son is able to convince me to buy one of the expensive beds
at cost, he too wood buy one!
