We refer to your message dated May 30 asking some clarifications regarding the connection between the Theosophical Society and the institution called New Acropolis.
The Theosophical Society does not have any link at all with New Acropolis or Hastinapura nor any other organization promoting what they call theosophical teachings.
Mr. Jorge Angel Livraga (now deceased), principal founder of New Acropolis was once a member of the Theosophical Society in Argentina. Due to his incorrect behaviour - confirmed by the judicial authorities of the country (Argentina) - he was legally expelled from the Theosophical Society. After that incident, together with some others, he created the institution with the name New Acropolis, proclaiming exactly the same objects as the Theosophical Society. He was advised to reconsider the use of the same objects, to which he never paid attention.
The statement that you mention in your message : "they claim to be the original inheritors of the aims of the former Theosophical Society" , in unfortunately false. Inheritance is what remains after the previous body has disappeared.
The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 and has had a verifiable, uninterrupted existence; therefore it is rather insolent to pretend that it has ceased to exist. At the time of Mr. Livraga's decision, Mr.N. Sri Ram was the International President of the Theosophical Society.
Following the policy of freedom of thought, one of the principles of the Theosophical Society, he never accepted, nor created an elite circle of disciples.
Therefore, Mr. Sri Ram's name should not be used as some kind of authority. In an official declaration passed by the General Council of the Theosophical Society, you can read:
"No teacher, or writer, from H.P. Blavatsky onwards, has any authority to impose his or her teachings or opinions on members".
Mrs. Ada Albrecht, wife of Mr. Livraga established in Montevideo, Uruguay, an organization known as Hastinapura, more as a means to earn her living than to propagate spirituality. H.P.Blavatsky' writings are disseminated all over the globe en various languages, therefore, they are by now part of the worl literature.
We hope that the above may help you to discover by yourself the way to tread.
Sincerely,
International Secretary Office The Theosophical Society Adyar - Chennai 600 020 ï India
