History of the Theosophical Movement

For readers who are interested in learning something about the
history of the Theosophical Movement, I suggest the following article
and book:

(1) Dr. James Santucci's article titled "Theosophy and the
Theosophical Societies" --- which can be found in the book
titled "Odd Gods: New Religions and the Cult Controversy" (edited by
James R. Lewis and published by Prometheus Books, 2001) --- provides
an excellent and brief overview of the various societies and groups
constituting the "Theosophical Movement."

(2) The book "Ancient Wisdom Revived: A History of the Theosophical
Movement" by Bruce F. Campbell is probably the "best" history of the
Theosophical Movement.

This book by Dr. Campbell is certainly a good OVERVIEW in some 250
pages of all the various Theosophical groups and societies including
overviews of Madame Blavatsky's life and the early history of the
various Theosophical Societies during the 1870s, 1880s and 1890s as
well as into the 20th century.

In ANCIENT WISDOM REVIVED, Dr. Campbell also gives some helpful
summaries of the teachings of Theosophy as found in HPB's ISIS
UNVEILED, THE SECRET DOCTRINE and THE VOICE OF THE SILENCE.

This book can be ordered from Amazon.com at:

The book "Odd Gods" is also available at Amazon.
