Let me add. The reason that John Coats defeated Rukmin Arundale was John
Coats extensively travelled in India. He travelled at his own expense as an
ordinary member with no official title. While he is no scholar with academic
credentials, his charisma and simple lectures just won the hearts of members
in spite of the fact that Rukmini also has travelled and lectured widely and
is a household word and was also the recipient of the highest civilian
award.

India has 13 official languages and many dialects. So it is a very diverse
country as Rajiv has reminded us.

Travel in India today is very easy as well.
