Sometimes, even confidential information has to come out in the open, if it
is going to do some good to the public/members. I recall a statement in ML,
that there are always exceptions to the rule. Some erroneously think that
confidential info can never be revealed because it violates copyright. It is
not true because if this is the case, news reporters can never do
investigative reporting or disclose happenings that are injurious to the
public. So they quote or paraphrase the info. This secrecy issue reminds me
of a famous incident in India.

One of the well known religious monks was told by his Guru, that a certain
info/mantra if disclosed to anyone, he will die immediately before he
discloses. But the monk knew the info will greatly help everyone and decided
that he would rather die in disclosing it rather than keep it secret and
live. So one day at the appointed time in the market square he was to reveal
it and then die as his Guru told him. Entire town showed up. He climbed on
the top of a tower and spoke to the assembled about the secret and when
done, waited to die. Lo and behold, nothing happened. The moral of the story
is, if some good will come out of it, don't worry about secrecy etc.

Many times, people come across very important and sensitive information
dissemination of which is immediate and urgent to prevent a calamitous
event. While revealing it, when traced to the leaker, may result in the loss
of livelyhood and other consequences. Generally people, especially those in
power are quite revengeful. Today, fortunately, we have Internet and such
info can be emailed to any of the active participants here and they would be
glad to disseminate the info without revealing the identity of the leaker.
