Can't see it Bruce.  HPB doesn't strike me as requiring a husband other than for practical purposes, (no offence meant).  Did HPB ever mention that she was in union with her higher self?

Another thing to keep in mind is that HPB was reportedly battling her
own Dweller at this time. She would have been going through a dark
period where she was prone to making mistakes. Perhaps this marriage
of convenience was one such mistake.
