Frank,
Most people never even heard of Ernst Von Bunsen in todays world. I only recognize the name due to my collection of G. R. S. Mead's Books, he cites Ernst Von Bunsen as well as Carl Schmidt and Adolph Von Harnack in his Pistis Sophia and other Books he wrote. Most people here on this forum never read ccomparative religion or antiquities as Blavatsky and Mead and the Mahatma's did. They limit to actual Theosophical Publications which limits their scope. Bunsen was European and most Americans have no exposure to European Scholars. My luck at finding their works in LA Rare Book Dealers failed.
BTW when I used Google Books I did not find the Bunsen Book on "Egypt and the Secret Doctrine", what is the exact Title and Publication date of that work?
Of course there are allegded to be two Immortal Mahatma's that perpetually live at the village of Kalapa in India;
1. Devapi, brother of Maharaja Santanu
and
2. Maru descendent of Iksvaku ( some permute "Maru" into "Morya" )
Sometimes I wonder if there is a literal connection.
Regards,
John

Cass, yes, you are right. Bunsen's work appeared 13 years before the SD.
I wonder why Bunsen is so undervalued in our circles.

Frank, wasn't the Secret Doctrine published in 1888, making Bunsens book 13 years prior to SD?

Dear Morten,
well said.
As I find in your quote Bunsenâ??s â??Egyptâ??s Place in History,â?? I woul dlike
call attention to his perhaps even more interesting book "Egypt and the
Secret Doctrine", published in Berlin, 1875 and which as far as I can see,
never has been republished. A book, which theosophists seem have to be
overlooked since 130 years.
I think the orientalist works of the 18th and 19th century, which were
published in Europe, and which are unknown today, are undervalued and earn
more respect.
Perhaps much could be find to vindicate HPB.
This kind of work is of course more straining as to attend a coffee klatsch
and chat about the importance of oneself and the high occult status one has,
so it is no wonder that theosophists in my country do not know anything
about Bunsen.
