After reading this Frank I tend to agree with you. Besant had really lost
the plot. Gregory has just told us that Wedgewood and Kollerstrom were lovers
and an Arhat at the same time!!!
I've said for years that I'm going to write about the Loonies of Ommen and
title the book "1925, the Year They All Went Stark Staring Nuts!"
There is the famous story of George Bernard Shaw running in Krishnamurti and
asking him how Annie was. K responded that she was well but at her age she
could "no longer think consecutively." Shaw laughed and said, "She never
could!"
And he was right. She never had a rational thought pass through her head.
It is difficult to look at her life and writing and not be puzzled that
anyone could have ever, and still do for that matter, take a word she ever said
seriously. At least Leadbeater is entertaining in his silliness!
I say this as a devoted albeit heretical Adyarian. Mrs. Besant was the
personification of dingbat.
