Daniel, flapdoodle, the speculations Algeo makes.
I object in quick response the following claims:
1. Theosophy does not derive from HPB alone, there was Theosophy before her (Boehme, Paracelsus, Hegel, Fichte, Schelling etc.) and even Theosophical Societies.
2. As his Path magazine proofs, Judge had much deeper insight into the teachings as Olcott and Sinnett as lay chelas had and proofs that he had knowledge of its own.
3. Besant was only HPB's exoteric successor as President of the Blavatsky Lodge and the European Section, not as Outer Head and teacher in the ES, but as recorder of the teachings and as joint OH on probation.
4. Leadbeater was never a successor of HPB in the religious, metaphysical and esoteric meaning of the term, although some Adyar people in Germany believe that Leadbeater was also PTS and OH and the highest Adept who ever walked on Earth.
5. The term "reformulated" in connection with the pseudo-Theosophy of Besant and Leadbeater compared with the iti maya srutam pukka Theosophy of Purucker is misleading, as if the adulteration of the teachings by the self styled saviors of Mankind with their vivid phantasy is the same as the deeper explanation of the occult philosophy by GdeP as predicted by HPB in "The Secret Doctrine".
While Purucker was bearing HPB's original occult signet ring, Besant was merely bearing a worthless imitation, which was precipitated by HPB herself. Besant sat at the feet of the World teacher, but did not knew her.

Subject: Theos-World John Algeo on Modern Theosophy
In the THEOSOPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA (Theosophical Publishing House,
Philippines, 2006), John Algeo writes (pp. 636-637) as follows about
Modern Theosophy:
=============================================================
The Theosophical Society was founded by H.P. Blavatsky, Henry S.
Olcott, William Q. Judge, and others, but Theosophy derives from H.P.
Blavatsky alone. Her writings and those of her teachers, as
contained in The Mahatma Letters, are the basis of all modern
Theosophy. During Blavatsky's lifetime, the Theosophy of which she
and her teachers were the primary exponents was paraphrased and
adapted by several of her contemporaries, most notably Olcott, Judge,
and Alfred Percy Sinnett. After Blavatsky's death, modern Theosophy
was further elaborated and to some extent reformulated by her
successors, notably Annie Wood Besant and Charles Webster Leadbeater
in the Adyar Society and Gottfried de Purucker in the Point Loma
Society.
