I haven't heard about this in particular, but I'm working in the 
institute concerned with geology and ecology and the scientists there 
openly scoff on most such news circulated previously: like changing 
the poles, catastrophic decrease of Earth's magnetic field, etc. etc.

If magnetic field of Earth is not constant, as it was previously 
thought, but is alternating and has a frequency 12Hz, not far from the 
industrial AC frequency 50Hz, why no one uses it as a source of free 
energy? Any coil big ehough would give current.
