So, am I through my membership condoning the Leadbeater and Besant debacle?
I don't know. And at this point, since Blavatsky, Judge, Olcott, Leadbeater
and Besant have gone to their reward, I don't care. I will just have to make
do with the literature and my own intuitions.

That's always been how I feel about it as well. They are long dead and now
everyone who knew them is as well. Frankly, I could not care less about when
or if Leadbeater was born or hatched or his proclivities, any more than I
would stop reading Ezra Pound because of his politics or avoid Wagnerian opera.
Most of Leadbeater is nonsense, but at least it is entertaining nonsense as
opposed to the unthinking treacle of Mrs. Besant, who apparently was
incapable of critical, or even rational thought.

That being said, the Adyar society, with its willingness to change and
openness to differing interpretations is infinitely to be preferred to the
hidebound dogmatism and dead-letter Theosophy of the Judge worshippers. I remember
any number of times a group of us would be sitting in the Olcott Library
looking at old issue of The Theosophist and laughing our collective heads off. I
doubt that goes on very much at the other societies.
