Thanks Dennis,
Good to know that Judge had HPB's seal of approval, and that communications were to be between Judge and HPB ( not the masters).
So the heads of the Esoteric Section of the TS were
Judge in America (1888)
Olcott in Asia (1889)
and Besant as Chief Secretary (not dated)
Maybe I am reading too much into this but the tone of Besant's appointment is totally different from the tone in the other two appointments. Why mention the Masters approval in one and not in the other two? Why speak of communication with H.P.B, when in the other two, she signs herself off as H.P. Blavatsky?
Anyway after the death of HPB all others that followed were translators of her works.

HPB signed the following document.
As Head of the Esoteric Section of the Theosophical Society I hereby declare
that William Q. Judge of New York, U.S., in virtue of his character as a
chela of thirteen years standing and of the trust and confidence reposed in
him, is my only representative for said section in America and he is the
sole channel through whom will be sent and received all communications
between the members of said Section and myselj, and to him full faith,
confidence and credit in that regard are to be given. Done at London this
fourteenth day of December, 1888, and in the Fourteenth year of the
Theosophical Society (s) H. P. Blavatsky

In 1889, Col. H. S. Olcott made a protracted visit to Europe, during which
he saw H.P.B. for the last time. The day before he left London for Colombo,
Lanka, she handed to him the following document:
Theosophical Society, Esoteric Section,
London, 25th December, 1889
I hereby appoint Colonel H. S. Olcott my confidential agent and sole
official representative of the Esoteric Section for Asiatic countries.
All correspondence relative to admission into, and resignation from, the
Section shall be referred to him, and all Instructions transmitted by him,
and his decision is to be taken and accepted as given by myself. Such
correspondence to be invariably marked 'Private' on the envelope. (Signed)
H. P. Blavatsky.
And on page 485 is the following:
Esoteric Section [TS Seal] H. P. Blavatsky
E. S. ORDER
I hereby appoint in the name of the MASTER, Annie Besant Chief Secretary of
the Inner Group of the Esoteric Section & recorder of the Teachings. H. P.

Yes you are right Carl it was The Ocean of Theosophy. As it put me off, I
didn't read any other of his works. I still feel more drawn to others such
as Purucker, Baborka,Gardner. Why do you say Judge was the most important
contributor after HPB? For me it is like comparing apples and oranges?

You wrote that you found Judge "writing to have too much of a
religious flavour to them". I think you are referring too The Ocean
of Theosophy. I'm I right? We must not forget, something many have
done day, that that book was written by Judge with members of the
Christen American middleclass in mind, which as well was seekers.
Nether his articles, Esoteric Instructions or his Occult novels
could be called religious flavoured.
You also wrote "Judge was a contributor, no more". Yes, a
contributor, but the second must important contributor after H.P.
Blavatsky.
