It's because the leaders are too old. In America and Russia one person
cannot occupy the presidential office for more than two terms, and I
think it would be not bad to introduce this rule in the Theosophical
Society too.
Yet it will not solve the problem, as majority of the members are also
old. This tendence was already present as early as in the beginning of
20th century.
By now several good theosophical sites exist, and most of the
theosophical classics is already online. Nevertheless, it hasn't made
theosophy significantly more popular. Maybe in the long run these
sites shall attract more young people but now I don't see the marked
difference.
By the way, the Founders used also the age-old methods:
"H.P.B.'s intense desire was to attract the attention of men of
position to Theosophy. For this purpose she worked hard and succeeded
eventually."
(A Reminiscence of H.P.B. by G. Soobiah Chetty)
I don't know, is anything made now in this direction. If not, it will
clearly show that the problem is not in that the leaders are
old-fashioned.
