I remember in the 1970s when I was researching
the life and claims of C.W. Leadbeater that a
number of Leadbeater students were very much
against me digging into some of Mr. Leadbeater's
claims and into his biographical history.  

Some refused to supply historical material,
some tried to convince me that certain "negative" claims were
not accurate, or that all my  historical research was
"old stuff" and didn't really matter, etc. etc.

It was also during this period of time that I first
heard about Margaret Thomas' work comparing the 
teachings of Blavatsky with the teachings of Leadbeater
and Annie Besant.  I remember it took some time
to even find a copy of this typescript!

It was during this period of time that I first
heard that Gregory Tillett was preparing a biography
of Mr. Leadbeater.  It must be remembered that up 
to this time it was hard to find accurate biographical
information on Mr. Leadbeater.  I also remember that
when Tillett's book was first published that there was
somewhat of a furor in some Leadbeater circles about the
contents of the book.  I was assured by more than one
student that there were grave inaccuracies in the book.
But usually such criticisms were vague and nonspecific.
I still have several letters from correspondents telling
me that I had no intuition, that my interest in this subject
was merely intellectual, scholarly and that I simply could
not understand the importance of Mr. Leadbeater's mission
and teachings.

Even in the last few years, when I published two online
versions of Margaret Thomas' work on my website, I received
letters from Leadbeater students accusing me of working for
the dark forces and yes actually being a dugpa.  In a number
of communications from one correspondent I was lectured as to
my lack of spiritual perception and about my work which was
against the true work of the Masters. Etc. Etc.
